Salary Range/ Wage Rate: $2,692.80bi-weekly plus 6.25% deferred compensation
Our Liquid Waste Services Department is seeking a Utility Systems Operator (USO) I Liquid Waste who is a passionate and skilled professional to join our Liquid Waste Services Department. The ideal candidate should possess a strong work ethic and prioritize safety. In addition, the candidate should be self-motivated, enthusiastic about learning, and bring a positive attitude to the team. Experience working outdoors is a must. This role involves working with Metro Vancouver's Sanitary and Drainage Infrastructure.
You are a committed Certified Operator who can work efficiently, safely, and cooperatively within a team environment. This position presents a chance to apply your technical skills to meet operational needs. Please be aware that reliability is an absolute necessity for this job.
This role: (The duties described hereunder are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered as all inclusive.)
- Works in all phases of the operation, monitoring and maintaining of wastewater collection and drainage systems facilities including but not limited to pumping stations, dam(s), sanitary/storm sewers, culverts, watercourses, control chambers, manholes, grit chambers, debris catchers/grills, flow control devices, emergency generators, and odour control equipment.
- Performs inspection and system maintenance, sanitary/storm sewers cleaning, alterations, minor repairs, lubrications, etc. of equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, process control instruments.
- Performs general repairs, housekeeping, painting, etc.
- Performs maintenance tasks including but not limited to: sanitary/storm sewer/watercourse inspection, gravel, debris and windfall removal, brush cutting/vegetation control, slope or bank stability enhancements, beaver dam removal, etc.
- Operates power tools, mowers, chain saws, jackhammers, and vehicles and equipment to fulfill the needs of the position.
- Performs construction duties such as sanitary/storm sewer repairs, raising and rebuilding of manholes, sanitary/storm sewer connections, road building and watercourse rehabilitation works.
- Ensures all work carried out adheres to and is in compliance with all applicable policies/procedures, including all WorkSafe BC and MV safety policies/procedures. Advises superiors of situations requiring review.
- Prepares written documentation on work performed, as required.
To be successful, you have:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent (Preference will be given if supplemented with courses in civil and mechanical technology, computers, electrical, instrumentation etc.).
- One or more years’ experience in wastewater system operations and maintenance.
- BC EOCP Level I Wastewater Collections certificate or equivalent Provincial Certification. The highest EOCP Wastewater Collections Certificate shall be maintained in good standing
- Ability to read simple drawing and engineering sketches.
- Working knowledge of process and mechanical equipment, control systems, electrical and instrumentation equipment, sanitary/storm sewer repair and cleaning, and video inspection.
- Mechanical proficiency and construction aptitude.
- Ability to operate power and pneumatic tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Working knowledge of relevant safety policies and procedures.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position and willingness and ability to work shift work as required.
- Willingness to undertake additional training relating to the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Some knowledge of computer applications related to the position.
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License.
